What it meansThe federal Canadian organic standard, mandatory on any agricultural product sold across provincial borders or imported as 'organic'.Mexico's national organic mark, administered by SENASICA under the Ley de Productos Orgánicos (LPO).The official environmental label of the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland). Covers ~60 product categories from cleaning products to hotels — NOT specifically an organic standard.New Zealand's largest organic certifier. Recognised by the EU, US, and Japan under their respective import-equivalence regimes.

Does NOT
  • Provincial sales-only operations are not legally required to carry it (though many do voluntarily).
  • USDA equivalence is granted product-by-product, not blanket.
  • Doesn't certify food as organic — Nordic Swan on a food package means lower-environmental-impact, not 'no synthetic pesticides'.
  • New Zealand has no single legally-mandated 'organic' definition — voluntary certification is the norm.
