What it meansThe federal Canadian organic standard, mandatory on any agricultural product sold across provincial borders or imported as 'organic'.Brazil's national organic mark under the Sistema Brasileiro de Avaliação da Conformidade Orgânica, administered by MAPA. Required on any food sold as 'orgânico' in Brazil.Combined organic + fair-trade + social-responsibility certification. Issued by Ecocert (originally developed by IMOswiss). Stricter than baseline Fairtrade on labour conditions; often paired with an organic mark on the same product. The strictest, most widely-recognised standard for organic textiles. Does NOT
  • Provincial sales-only operations are not legally required to carry it (though many do voluntarily).
  • OPAC (peer-review) certified products are valid in Brazil but typically not accepted for export — exporters need third-party (e.g. IBD).
  • Doesn't itself mean organic — pair with an organic mark for the full picture.
  • Doesn't cover non-textile components (zips, buttons, prints) beyond the chemical-restriction list.
