What it meansNorway's only accredited organic certifier. The Ø-merket is required on any food sold as 'økologisk' in Norway. Operates to EU 2018/848 equivalence plus Norwegian add-ons.The European Commission's voluntary environmental label. Covers cleaning products, paper, textiles, electronics, accommodation services. NOT an organic mark.India's national organic mark under the National Programme for Organic Production. Administered by APEDA; required on any food exported as organic and increasingly on domestic packaging.Finland's national organic 'Sun Mark' (Aurinkomerkki). Operated by the Finnish Food Authority. In practice most Finnish organic packaging carries both Luomu and the EU Leaf — they certify to the same baseline.

Guarantees
  • EU baseline organic.
  • Annual on-site inspection.
  • Norwegian-specific welfare standards (esp. for cold-climate livestock).
  • Lifecycle-based environmental criteria per product category.
  • Restrictions on hazardous chemicals.
  • Annual licence renewal with audit.
  • ≥95% organic ingredients.
  • No synthetic pesticides, no GMOs.
  • Annual third-party certification.
  • EU baseline organic (Finnish supply chains end-to-end).
  • Annual on-site inspection by the Finnish Food Authority.
Does NOT
  • Norway is outside the EU — the Ø is recognised under EEA equivalence, not direct EU equivalence.
  • Doesn't apply to food. Doesn't mean organic.
  • Domestic-only sales can also use FSSAI's 'Jaivik Bharat' mark — if you see only 'Jaivik Bharat' without 'India Organic', the supply chain may be PGS-India rather than NPOP-accredited.
  • The Sun Mark is awarded only to fully Finnish supply chains — imports use the EU Leaf alone.
