What it meansNorway's only accredited organic certifier. The Ø-merket is required on any food sold as 'økologisk' in Norway. Operates to EU 2018/848 equivalence plus Norwegian add-ons.North America's leading 'no genetically modified organisms' certification. Tests for the presence of GMOs in finished products. NOT organic. The federal Canadian organic standard, mandatory on any agricultural product sold across provincial borders or imported as 'organic'.Combined organic + fair-trade + social-responsibility certification. Issued by Ecocert (originally developed by IMOswiss). Stricter than baseline Fairtrade on labour conditions; often paired with an organic mark on the same product.

  • ≥95% organic ingredients (single-ingredient products: 100%).
  • No synthetic pesticides, no GMOs, no irradiation.
  • Annual third-party certification under the Canada Organic Regime.

  • Annual on-site audit by Ecocert.
Does NOT
  • Norway is outside the EU — the Ø is recognised under EEA equivalence, not direct EU equivalence.
  • Doesn't mean organic — Non-GMO products can use synthetic pesticides and fertilizers freely.
  • Provincial sales-only operations are not legally required to carry it (though many do voluntarily).
  • Doesn't itself mean organic — pair with an organic mark for the full picture.
