What it meansCertifies fair prices and conditions for producers in developing countries — not organic, not environmental. • Annual on-site audit by Ecocert.
  • ≥95% organic ingredients.

  • Restrictions on hazardous chemicals.

  • Audited every 3-5 years against an updated standard.
Does NOT
  • Doesn't mean organic — many Fairtrade products are conventionally grown. A separate Fairtrade-Organic dual certification exists.
  • Doesn't itself mean organic — pair with an organic mark for the full picture.
  • Mutual recognition with the US, EU, and Canada applies to specific product categories — check each agreement before importing.
  • Doesn't certify food as organic — Nordic Swan on a food package means lower-environmental-impact, not 'no synthetic pesticides'.
