What it meansThe international umbrella body for the organic movement. Not a product label — IFOAM accredits other certifiers worldwide via the IFOAM Family of Standards. If a cert is 'IFOAM-accredited' it has been benchmarked to a globally consistent baseline.France's national organic mark, owned by the Ministry of Agriculture. Sits alongside the EU Leaf on virtually all French organic packaging.South America's largest organic certifier. IBD certifies under Brazilian, USDA NOP, EU, and JAS standards — a single-stop certifier widely used across Latin America.Tests finished textiles for harmful substances. Important: OEKO-TEX 100 is NOT an organic certification — it certifies that the finished item is free of certain chemicals, regardless of how the fibre was grown.

Guarantees
  • Accredited certifiers meet the IFOAM Norms and the IFOAM Family of Standards.
  • Independent peer review of certifier governance, inspection rigor, and conflict-of-interest controls.
  • EU baseline organic (EU 2018/848).
  • Annual on-site inspection by accredited French certifiers (Ecocert, Bureau Veritas, Qualité-France).
  • Multiple-standard certification: Brazilian (SisOrg), USDA NOP, EU, JAS, Demeter.
  • Annual on-site inspection.
  • Finished textile tested against the OEKO-TEX harmful-substance limit list.
  • Limits on heavy metals, formaldehyde, pesticide residue, banned amines, allergenic dyes.
Does NOT
  • Does NOT certify products directly — only certifiers. Look for the underlying national / private mark on the package.
  • Same standard as the EU Leaf — AB is the brand consumers recognise, not a stricter rule.
  • A single product may carry IBD plus a country-specific organic mark — IBD itself isn't the regulatory mark in any of those markets, just the accredited certifier.
  • Does NOT mean organic. Does NOT cover farming, dyeing chemistry beyond the limit list, or social/labour standards. A 100% conventional cotton t-shirt can be OEKO-TEX 100 certified.
