What it meansThe international umbrella body for the organic movement. Not a product label — IFOAM accredits other certifiers worldwide via the IFOAM Family of Standards. If a cert is 'IFOAM-accredited' it has been benchmarked to a globally consistent baseline.New Zealand's largest organic certifier. Recognised by the EU, US, and Japan under their respective import-equivalence regimes. The federal Canadian organic standard, mandatory on any agricultural product sold across provincial borders or imported as 'organic'.South America's largest organic certifier. IBD certifies under Brazilian, USDA NOP, EU, and JAS standards — a single-stop certifier widely used across Latin America.

  • ≥95% organic ingredients.

  • Annual on-site inspection.
  • Covers food, textiles, and personal care under separate standards.
  • ≥95% organic ingredients (single-ingredient products: 100%).
  • No synthetic pesticides, no GMOs, no irradiation.
  • Annual third-party certification under the Canada Organic Regime.
  • Multiple-standard certification: Brazilian (SisOrg), USDA NOP, EU, JAS, Demeter.
  • Annual on-site inspection.
Does NOT
  • Does NOT certify products directly — only certifiers. Look for the underlying national / private mark on the package.
  • New Zealand has no single legally-mandated 'organic' definition — voluntary certification is the norm.
  • Provincial sales-only operations are not legally required to carry it (though many do voluntarily).
  • A single product may carry IBD plus a country-specific organic mark — IBD itself isn't the regulatory mark in any of those markets, just the accredited certifier.
