What it meansBrazil's national organic mark under the Sistema Brasileiro de Avaliação da Conformidade Orgânica, administered by MAPA. Required on any food sold as 'orgânico' in Brazil.Norway's only accredited organic certifier. The Ø-merket is required on any food sold as 'økologisk' in Norway. Operates to EU 2018/848 equivalence plus Norwegian add-ons.Vottunarstofan Tún is Iceland's only accredited organic certifier. Accredited by MAST (Matvælastofnun) under the EU 2018/848-equivalent Icelandic standard, so a Tún-certified product is also recognised as EU-organic.A 'beyond organic' standard developed by the Regenerative Organic Alliance (Patagonia, Rodale Institute, Dr. Bronner's, others). Built on top of USDA Organic; adds soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness pillars.

Guarantees
  • ≥95% organic ingredients per Brazilian Organic Law 10.831/2003.
  • Annual on-site inspection by MAPA-accredited certifier OR a participatory-guarantee group (OPAC).
  • Two valid pathways: third-party certification OR a peer-reviewed OPAC system.
  • EU baseline organic.
  • Annual on-site inspection.
  • Norwegian-specific welfare standards (esp. for cold-climate livestock).
  • ≥95% organic ingredients per EU rules.
  • No synthetic pesticides, no GMOs.
  • Annual on-site inspection.
  • Animal welfare standards (outdoor / pasture access, geothermally-warmed greenhouse compatibility for vegetables).
  • USDA Organic baseline (or equivalent) is a prerequisite.
  • Soil health: cover cropping, no-till or reduced-till, conservation crop rotation, compost.
  • Animal welfare: pasture-based, Five Freedoms, prohibits factory-farm conditions.
  • Social fairness: living wage, freedom of association, safe workplace, no forced or child labour.
  • Three tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold based on adoption depth.
Does NOT
  • OPAC (peer-review) certified products are valid in Brazil but typically not accepted for export — exporters need third-party (e.g. IBD).
  • Norway is outside the EU — the Ø is recognised under EEA equivalence, not direct EU equivalence.
  • There aren't many Tún-certified operations (~120–160) — coverage in the Icelandic market is narrower than in the EU mainland.
  • Newer label (2018+) — supply still limited, mostly US brands.
